DIY Kids Project: Make Your Own Sidewalk Chalk

103_0571Creative Couponing’s DIY Amy’s kid’s project for the week is to make your own sidewalk chalk.

Sidewalk Chalk
3/4 cup water
3/4 cup cornstarch
1-2 drops of food coloring

Put cornstarch in bowl THEN add water, will be easier to mix.

Poor into cups or a muffin tin, then add drops of food coloring. I used a muffin tin as my son loves to use it, easy to clean up and if you leave a hole empty the brush sits there perfect. Do not leave brush in the chalk mix or it gets gross.

102_9706Mine did not stain though I have heard some might. ¬†Add 1-2 drops of coloring first if you aren’t sure or hesitant. Another neat way I have done is to take my leftover broken chalk pieces, put in thick ziploc, crush into little pieces with hammer and slowly add water until paint like texture. Great way to use up the broken pieces kids won’t use!!!
