It is that time of year again for the great Minnesota get together… the 2012 Minnesota State Fair! With prices on the rise for everything, being able to go cheap on some things will allow you to spend the money in a different area of the Minnesota State Fair.

1~Buy tickets (up to $3 discount), the Blue Ribbon Bargain Book ($1 discount) and Ride & Game Ticket Sheets ($5 discount)  BEFORE the fair at Cub Foods.  If you forget to buy tickets, look for days where the State Fair will offer discounts for kids or seniors. LINK to discount days at the Fair.  LINK to what is in the coupon book.  Be sure to pass along the book to a relative, friend, or even someone at the fair.

Planning ahead can save you a bundle. Pre-fair discount admission tickets, ride & game tickets and Blue Ribbon Bargain Books are available through next Wednesday, Aug. 22 at Cub Foods locations, the State Fairgrounds Box Office and many locations in greater Minnesota and Western Wisconsin (while supplies last). The State Fair offers special admission discounts on six of its 12 days with Thrifty Thursday, Seniors and Kids Days, Military Appreciation Day and Read & Ride Day. Many vendors throughout the fairgrounds offer deal day savings. Click here for a listing of special days and applicable admission discounts.

All-day or Early Bird specials are offered each weekday on Mighty Midway and Kidway rides, games and concessions when fewer tickets buy more fun. Click here for dates and more information on Mighty Midway and Kidway deals.

The 2012 Blue Ribbon Bargain Book offers 126 coupons worth hundreds of dollars in savings on food, merchandise and attractions. This year, fairgoers can get smart about the State Fair with a new cell phone walking tour!

With their phones, fairgoers can listen to cool stories about popular Fair spots that are free and right at their fingertips. Fairgoers who finish get a free prize! There’s more info about this HERE.

After fairgoers get their brochure punched at each of the 12 stops on the tour, they can bring the brochure to the J.V. Bailey House or the Minnesota Historical Society Booth (#79, lower lever of the Grandstand) before 8 p.m. to collect a free prize (while supplies last).

The tour was developed by the Minnesota Historical Society and the State Fair Foundation.
